Accommodations for autism or sensory sensitivities in camp

Hi [PATRON’S NAME]!

Thank you for reaching out!

For our summer camps, we are happy to make basic accommodations for support and do offer sensory backpacks with fidgets and headphones in each classroom if that's helpful for your camper. Our summer staff go through a basic training module for autism awareness and assistance in the classroom, and our full-time staff go through a more extensive training.

What are your camper's specific triggers? Are there any specific ways we can support them while they’re in camp with us? These are important pieces of information that we would love for you to enter into our CampDoc health system prior to starting your camp week so we can communicate this with teaching staff ahead of time.

The two actions that we may have to call home for pick-up from camp are if your camper were to elope or run away from his camp group intentionally or if your camper were to get physical with the other campers and/or teaching staff. We just like to share that in case that is a way your camper tends to react when they get overwhelmed.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any specific questions, and we will be happy to help.

Thank you,

[YOUR NAME]
